Beauty Tip Tuesday - Soft Cuticles

Time For Another Beauty Tip Tuesday!

Today is how to get and keep healthy cuticles!

For those of you that don't know what a cuticle is - it is the thin peice of skin found at the base of our nails. It is important to take care of this part of your body because, not only is it super visible and can cause your hands to look a mess!- but it is also a defense against bacteria and fungus entering the nail bed, preventing infection.

Ok - to get soft, smooth cuticles here is what you need:

-Nail polish remover (non-acetone)
-Hand lotion
-Olive oil or hair conditioner
-Small bowl of warm water
-Dry, soft cloth

Avoid products with acetone in them as this causes nails to become dry and brittle and extended use of acetone (enters your body through your skin) can cause issues with your kidneys, liver and nerves.

First you need to remove any old nail polish, then you apply either the olive oil or hair conditioner (whichever you have handy). Massage into your cuticles and let sit for about 5 minutes.

Get your bowl of warm water ready and soak your hands (about 2-5 minutes). Remove your hands from the water and take your soft towel - pat your hands dry and using the towel, gently push back your cuticles. Do not cut your cuticles unless you have been trained and know what you are doing(your cuticles should never bleed when you cut them! Cutting too far back can lead to infection) - pushing the cuticles should be sufficient.

Once you've pushed back your cuticles apply some hand cream.

* I always try to apply hand cream each and every time I wash my hands or get them wet - this prevents my cuticles from drying and cracking. If your cuticles are extremely dry try using some vitamin E oil - it can work miracles!

I hope you enjoyed todays Beauty Tip!

Lets Try A Little Experiment Shall We?

We are always so focused on keeping our hair healthy -

we spend hundreds of dollars on products. Shampoos, conditioners, oil treatments, masks - the list goes on and on. But what about our other hair? By other hair, I of course mean our eyelashes and brows! We apply all kinds of products to our lashes without giving it a second thought, but we never think about their health. I don' t use any nourishing products on my lashes, do you? Come to think of it, I'm actually pretty rough on my lashes. I use water proof mascara (very dehydrating!) artificial lashes, lash extensions, and I'm sure, any number of other drying, terrible products! Imagine some of the damage!

Today , when I was in my bathroom giving my hair a nice treatment, I though? What about my lashes? We don't realize how fragile they can become - they get breakage, they can become dry and brittle, just as the hair on our head does - they need some tender loving care sometimes too!

Have you heard of morrocan oil? I'm sure you have!

Well, I've been using Argon Oil (same thing) on my hair, and let me tell you, it's never felt better! I absolutely love it. My hair is soft and shiny, and just feels good. Which, of course, got me to thinking what it would do for my lashes. So I'm doing an experiment! I'm going to use this argon oil on my lashes for the next two weeks and see what it does. Maybe it will do something, maybe it won't. We shall see.

Tonight was the first night of application - I took an old mascara applicator (sanitized!) and dipped it in my oil and applied it to my lashes. I must say - it feels fine so far! I wonder if they will feel any different when I wake up in the morning? It will be an interesting two weeks!

Wish me luck in my search for healthy lashes and I will keep you posted on my results with the argon oil!
